GHHS physical education is offered to all
students. Freshman and sophomores are combined to make up the classes offered on odd number days and juniors and seniors
come together for classes offered on even number days.
Physical education classes are intended
to help students exercise for their present lives, however, also helps students learn to exercise on their own in the future. Physical education offers a huge variety of activities for exercise
and skill development. GHHS phys. ed. targets the exercise components, but also develops skills in character such as
team work, sportsmanship and positive communication.
Some of the units offered include team sports
such as ultimate football, flag football, volleyball, basketball, and team handball. Individual fitness and wellness
activities are also offered: Personal fitness, fitness circuit training, weight training, conditioning, cardiac assessment,
speed and agility training, and fitness testing. Individual sports that are offered are badminton and pickleball. A
variety of different exercise games are played to get the students moving and exercising. The month of January
is reserved to offer mini lessons exposing the students to new and interesting ways to exercise. Tumbling, Pilates,
hacky sack, Army training, and self defense are a few examples of this unit. A Survivor unit is also a part of the GHHS
curriculum. During this unit, the classes are divided into tribes and they compete in challenges that win them
points by doing well, succeeding, working together and using their character skills mentioned earlier.
Exercise is a forever thing!! I hope to get the students excited about some form
of exercise that they will be able when they are on their own.
